Ph.D. Program

Financial support

All incoming Lundquist College of Business PhD students qualify for Graduate Teaching Fellowship, renewable for four years, contingent on the student making satisfactory progress.  Students may apply for a fifth year.  The GTF appointment is for the nine-month academic year at the rate of .49 FTE which is effectively half-time.  Possible GTF assignments include teaching assistant, research assistant, and/or instructor.  PhD students are required to teach four courses during their tenure.

A Graduate Teaching Fellowship from the Lundquist College of Business includes the following compensation package:

  • Tuition waiver for four years:  Value was $10,530 for Oregon residents and $15,552 for non-residents for the 2008-09 academic year and will rise for the 2009-10 academic year.

  • Salary:  $14,275 to $15,075 per academic year, depending on advancement status.

  • Fee subsidy for four years:  Value is $3,264 per year.

  • Paid health coverage for four years:  Value for single person is $2,454/academic year; up to $7,966 for students who have a family.  This ranks among the top 5% of GTF health coverage plans nationally.

  • Summer support: Summer support will be guaranteed for the first three summers of the doctoral program beginning in 2010, ranging from about $3,900 to $5,000 and will consist of a mix of scholarships and teaching and/or research assistantships, depending on the needs of the college, the department, and student interests.  Students will work with their advisor and departmental Ph.D. area coordinator during each academic year to determine their upcoming summer funding option.

  • Travel support: Financial support up to $1000 or more is provided by departments to attend a national conference, typically in the student’s final year of the doctoral program.  Additional support is provided to students who author or co-author a paper selected for presentation at a national conference.

  • Office and computer:  Each incoming student is allocated office space (shared) and the use of a desktop computer.

  • Additional scholarships and awards are available from individual departments.  Please contact the area coordinator for details.
