Ben J. Salm
Managing Director
Ben returned to the University of Oregon in January 2008 as the first Managing Director for the Securities Analysis Center. His role is to develop and manage the program, including working relationships with industry and alumni. As our resident investment professional, he also teaches the Applied Portfolio Management series for MBA and undergraduate students interested in careers within the investment field.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Oregon, he spent the past 15 years in the investment management profession, many of those with State Street Global Advisors in Boston and London, England. His experience includes portfolio management, research, and client service on behalf of institutional investors in the US, Europe, and the Middle East. He has also founded his own investment advisory, and holds his Masters degree in Economics and Finance from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Wayne Mikkelson
Academic Director
Wayne Mikkelson is the Engemann Professor of Finance here at the Lundquist College of Business, where he also serves as the Academic Director for the Securities Analysis Center. His role is to oversee the integrity of the SAC curriculum, while ensuring that it remains progressive and closely aligned with the needs of industry.
Wayne Mikkelson is the Roger Engemann Professor of Finance and Finance Department head. His research focuses on corporate financing decisions and corporate governance. His published research deals with equity and convertible bond financing, dual class share structures, transactions in the market for corporate control, initial public offerings, corporate spin-offs and carve-outs, corporate liquidity policies, and tracking stock. He has served as an editor of the Journal of Financial Economics. He is an advisory editor for the Journal of Financial Economics and an associate editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He has also served as director of the Ph.D. Program at the Lundquist College of Business.
Kate Jones
Graduate Teaching Fellow
Kate Jones is pursuing an MBA in Finance as well as a Law degree in Taxation and will graduate in June of 2010. As the Graduate Teaching Fellow for the SAC, her role is to act as a liaison between students and the Center Director, interact with prospective students, help plan and coordinate events, and generally be the student face of the SAC.
Before converting to the Ducks, Kate completed her BA in Linguistics at the University of Washington. She plans to move to Asia after graduation to pursue a career in Finance that will take advantage of her legal background. In her free time, she hikes around Oregon taking pictures, cooks for friends, and plays piano.
